July 2023, Craig and I met with Greg and Bill at their under construction winery in Lafayette. Our wine is in two barrels, a smaller one and then the “normal size”. We just tasted our blend, and must say the smaller barrel, being a little further along in the aging, is delicious now. I’d drink it! (not that that is saying much), but the wine is not being bottled for another 10 months or so. Spoiler Alert – Not in this year’s XMAS stockings.
We also discussed the 2023 harvest, and wanting to procure some Mourvedre to have our own barrel of GSM – our Grenche and Syrah with about 15% Mourvedre. Craig and I were hoping that with all the rain, and our initial beautiful berries, that we might get around 1000 lbs from our grapes and then would add 150 lbs of the Mourvedre to get the barrels worth of fruit. However, after talking with them, and then taking a look at the vineyard, we are a little worried some of our berries have been impacted by shatter.
